Funchal is a lively city on the South coast of Madeira, small in population but punctuated by many open and spacious parks, gardens and leisure areas.

The Lido area where the hotel is located has a wide choice of excellent restaurants where you can try the local specialties; Black Scabbard fish, ‘espetada’ (a huge skewer of beef), passion fruit desserts and ‘poncha’ a drink known to cure a cold (allegedly) – whether this is related or not to the firewater it is made with or not is a matter for debate.

Madeira has three courses of note, Santo de Serra (30 mins), Palheiro (20 mins) and Porto Santo the latter of which is located on the island of Porto Santo (2hr 30mins by ferry). El Piano Bar
Located indoors, by the Mare Nostrum Restaurant, this is the place to unwind and enjoy live music and your favourite cocktail. Behind the stage, there is a large glass window that connects the bar with the smokers lounge, exquisitely decorated to enjoy the live music and the ambiance of the bar.
