There are quite a few things that many would consider compulsory to see or do on a golf holiday to Dubai. Shopping in Dubai Mall, seeing the Burj Khalifa fountain show, walking along The Walk at Jumeirah Beach and taking in sights of the Burj Al Arab and the Arabian Gulf.
While I was lucky enough to enjoy all of these during my short trip to the Emirates, my absolute favourite activity was when we left the city of gold behind for a few hours and embarked on a Sunset Desert Safari.
Those on our Jumeirah Al Naseem & Jumeirah Beach golf holidays will enjoy a complimentary sunset desert safari. So, here’s a quick glance at my experience to give you an idea of what to expect.
Pick-up at the hotel is at 3.30pm meaning there is plenty of time to get a game of golf in before being driven comfortably to the edge of the Arabian Desert to start your desert adventure. Before starting there was some local traders and I enjoyed some refreshing coconut water directly from a coconut. Delicious!
The fun begins with Dune Bashing in your 4 x 4! I wasn’t certain what this was going to involve but it’s pretty much exactly what it says. Your experienced driver will spend around 20 minutes driving up, down AND INTO sand dunes in the vicinity. It is a laugh out loud experience from start to finish (What a great job they have).
Following the dune bashing adventure you will be escorted to the desert camp where you will spend the rest of the evening. Here you can relax and indulge in a range of activities from hookah to henna tattoos while you wait for your traditional BBQ. We were able to take our time and have a go at all the activities including the quad bikes and the much slower camel rides all the time while in the traditional dress.
I was able to fulfil a bucket list dream of sand boarding (basically snowboarding on sand dunes). I’ve been recommended to try again on red sand as it’s much faster but this was a good introduction to the sport for the less adventurous or experienced.
As the sun set in the distance, I remember feeling so alive as I climbed a sand dune nearby the camp to enjoy a moment alone in the desert wilderness.
The tour finished with a local display of song and dance under the star lit sky before we were driven comfortably back home to the door of our hotel.
I can’t recommend a desert safari enough on your luxury golf holiday in Dubai. Check out the Jumeirah Al Neseem & Jumeirah Beach golf holidays which have complimentary desert safaris included.
