Last January our Business Development Manager Sean embarked on his first Middle East Golf Holiday. Staying on the Palm at the coveted Dukes Dubai Hotel, Sean was best placed to play many of the nearby Championship Golf Courses including Els Club Dubai, Dubai Hills Golf Club and the Earth Course at Jumeirah Estates – home of the European Tours ‘Race to Dubai’ Finals.

Dubai has become renowned as a luxury golf holiday destination. Having spent years engaged in golf travel worldwide in destinations such as Mauritius, Australia and New Zealand; Sean was excited to see how this relatively newer golf destination held up. What he found was more than enough to please even the most seasoned golf traveller.

Here’s the three things that surprised him the most about golfing in Dubai;

1) How Easy It Is To Get There

I took a 7 hour overnight flight from Heathrow with Emirates which was one of the best flights I have ever had. I had a quick meal when I got on board then slept for the remainder of the flight.
Being able to leave the night before and be on the course playing golf the next morning without feeling tired makes Dubai a great alternative to Europe for a short 4 or 5 day golf holiday.

2)The Standard Of The Golf Courses Are Like No Other

I knew I was in for a treat but I didn’t realise just how much. At the three courses I played, the fairways, the greens and the bunkers were all immaculate! I was super impressed with how perfectly green the courses looked against the desert backgrounds, it really shows that if they can do it in this terrain that there is no excuses elsewhere!

Since my visit I now measure how good a golf course is by comparing it to the likes of the Els Club or Jumeirah Golf Estates Earth Course.

3)The Food & Beverage Offering Is Exceptional

I have never eaten so many amazing meals on one holiday! A lot of celebrity chefs have restaurants in Dubai many of which are attached to the hotels and can be booked as part of your stay. Do some research before you visit as there is literally a Michelin star restaurant for every type of cuisine. I would recommend a visit to Pier 7 at Dubai Marina where you should try the Japanese Restaurant and whether or not you are staying at Dukes Dubai, you need to visit Dukes Steak Steakhouse.
