Avalon is the newest golf course on the paradise island of Mauritius. The natural contours and undulations of the golf estate not only enhance the course but also bring character to the game. A must play course on your golf holiday to Mauritius.

Avalon golf course is best remembered for its hole #4. Played from a tee along an elevated ridgeline, across a ravine, to a fairway situated well below the tees. A breathtaking tee shot but demanding nonetheless.

Peter Matkovich’s unique touch is evident throughout the course and his masterpiece is characterised by lush, green, all-season fairways, exceptional bunkering and the clever use of rivers and ravines features. The championship tees (gold) measure 6,318 metres, whereas the Club tees (white) measure 5,847 metres. The men’s tees (blue) 5,499 metres and the ladies (red) 4,899 metres.

The layout of the course was designed with the South-East Trade Wind in mind. All par 3’s and par 5’s play in different directions, providing you with varying conditions throughout the round.

Mark played at the course and wrote the following:

We played at Avalon Golf Club and on arrival we were met by the Estate Manager Ryan Dodds. Whilst it was my first round at Avalon it wasn’t my first time meeting Ryan who I’m sure many will remember at Heritage GC just down the hill! Marcella and I really enjoyed this superb Peter Matkovitch course, he’s a great designer and I’m pleased to say a fellow Zimbabwean. The course has spectacular views of the ocean from virtually every hole, surrounding tea plantations and nearby mountains. The course has wide forgiving fairways as it winds through rivers, ravines and indigenous forests, we thoroughly enjoyed our round yet again played in perfect conditions. During the round we bumped into Jean Patrick who I had met many times over the years at Heritage Golf Club – it was really pleasing to see that a local Mauritian who had started working at the range has progressed to being Avalon’s PGA pro, a true sign that Mauritius has matured as a golf destination
