Royal Cape Golf Club is a true championship course having hosted the South African Open and the SA Amateur Championships multiple times. The course has undergone extensive work to match the USGA standards and is now a fine test for golf holidays in South Africa.
South Africa’s oldest golf club emanates a rich history and tradition. With views of Table Mountain from most holes, this course offers a beautiful setting that will make yours South Africa golf holidays truly memorable.
The narrow fairways demand extreme accuracy off the tee, wayward shots can be heavily penalized amongst the trees and the greens are well bunkered. There is also plenty of water on the course, especially at the corner of the 3rd, 4th, 5th and also the 14th, 15th and 16th. The most difficult holes are the par-4 3rd and the par-4 14th.
The Erinvale golf course, designed by the legendary Gary Player, is conveniently located on the borders of Somerset West and only half an hour from the vibrant Cape Town, ideal location for your South Africa golf holidays.
Having hosted the 1996 World Cup of Golf and the second oldest tournament in the world, the prestigious SAA Open in 2003 and 2004, Erinvale is a prime course for golf holidays in South Africa.
Built on a narrow stretch of land which escalates sharply uphill, Erinvale is an estate course with two distinctly different nines. The front nine is flat, winding its way through the park-like terrain estate which calls for challenging approach shots to the long narrow putting surfaces, while the back nine meanders through the foothills of the magnificent Helderberg, with breathtaking views of the False Bay coastline from the top holes.
The signature par-four 17th hole requires golfers to play downhill from an elevated tee, with tall pines flanking one side of the fairway, and an out-of-bounds fence the other.
Located amid renowned landmarks, the Milnerton Golf Club offers stunning views of Table Mountain, Robben Island and the Rietvlei Conservation Area. On a clear day, it is one of the most visually beautiful and unique courses for golf holidays in South Africa. The rhythmic sound of the crashing waves drowns out other distractions and provides a sense of calm focus to let you drive, putt and wedge yourself into this old and noble game.
The revamped links layout has new water features and bunkers, along with excellent new greens. Superb putting surfaces now welcome the keen golfer; these are a delightful addition to the stunning views of the surrounds.
While the course is a delight to the senses, it definitely offers quite the challenge to even the most seasoned golfers. This is more so during the summer months when the prevailing South Easter makes things difficult. The sea and the lagoon border most holes and there are 7 beautiful water holes just lying in wait to claim wayward shots.
The Milnerton Golf Course is a unique experience that you cannot miss on your golf holidays in South Africa.
Set in the leafy Cape Town suburb of Lake Side, Westlake Golf Course has gained an illustrious reputation as one of the Cape’s premiere courses for golf holidays in South Africa. The natural beauty and wildlife that the surrounding mountains have added bring forth an element that most city suburb golf courses can only dream of. The Westlake course is one of the ideal places to fully enjoy your South Africa golf holiday.
The greens are all Poa Annua which is a very delicate grass that requires lots of “tender loving care” but if managed correctly, delivers an excellent putting surface. Fairways, semi-rough, tee boxes and rough are mainly Kikuyu, as is the standard in South Africa.
The golf course is meticulously managed on a daily basis with the greens and the bunkers being maintained each day. The fairways and rough are mowed weekly and although the rough can be tough at times, you will surely enjoy your golf holiday in South Africa.
The golf club has a driving range which is a short warm-up area of distances no more than 160m. There are two chipping / putting greens surrounded by one bunker to sharpen your short game.
Designed as a championship layout with wide fairways and USGA standard greens, the Signature Golf Course is a unique world-in-one course where each hole is designed by one of the world’s top golfers. An absolute must play course on a golf holiday in South Africa.
Representing amazing diversity from four continents, this collaborative masterpiece allows all golfers to enjoy amazing golf holidays in South Africa. With game like zebras, wildebeest and warthogs meandering freely on the fairways that wind through open grassland and dense bush, a round on Signature GC makes every shot a very special experience.
The Signature Golf Course also includes the now world famous Extreme 19th, the world’s longest and highest Par 3, offering every golfer an unforgettable South Africa Golf Holiday.
Accessible only by helicopter, the hole is situated on the top of Hanglip Mountain with a 361 metres shot to the green situated 400 breathtaking metres below the tee. Once the exhilarating helicopter flight to the top of this mystical mountain is completed, the player is treated to the golfing view of all time – miles of African bushveld stretching as far as the eye can see, a vista of epic proportions, and nestling at the foot of the mountain is the green contoured and shaped like the African continent.
