Opened in 1994 Constance Belle Mare Plage’s first championship golf course set along one of the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius Designed by South African champion Hugh Baiocchi 18 hole championship golf course laid in the heart of an indigenous forest. The course was built according to USPGA specifications with Tif Dwarf greens.
Teeing off at the par three 17th hole is a feast for the eyes and a test for the nerves. You are playing across the lagoon, but we have found that it is actually not a difficult as the green is fairly large, the sting in the tail is that the green is also tricky and a par score can be hard to achieve if you end up a long way from the hole. The course has a lot of water and thick scrub so take plenty of balls but having played it on many occasions we love this course. This is a walking course and buggies are optional and cost approx. £20 per person. Caddies are also available and cost around £3 to £5 for 18-holes.
Our View…“The course itself is a brilliant test of golf as you have to choose your club selection wisely from the tee box as most of the fairways can be a tight and not a big lot of room for error! Also to add to the challenge is “water” on nearly every hole to give it that full championship feel rather than just a holiday golf course that people may think it might be. It’s a fantastic walking course and very scenic with herds of deer quietly wandering the course.” Stuart Thompson – Chaka Travel Mauritius Golf Specialist
Stuart’s favourite hole: 4thA fantastic par 5 with a tee shot that you have to work the ball from right to left as you have water on the right and left for the length of the hole, making the first 2 shots a challenge.
Mark’s favourite hole: 18thHaving played the iconic 17th you end your round on the superb par 5 18th. Water to the right off the tee box means driving to the left of the fairway and having to lay up, a more aggressive line allows the bigger hitters to attack a larger very well protected green.
Our View…“A friendlier course well I use the word “lightly” as doesn’t have the same amount of water in play but can be tricky and especially on the back 9! The course again is very well set up with more room for error of the tee boxes and which is great for the higher handicapped golfers. Also another difference is I find the greens can be very tricky and also makes you think of every approach shot from the fairways. It again is a lovely course maybe not as scenic as the legends and also not as flat! So always advisable to get a buggy.” Stuart Thompson – Chaka Travel Mauritius Golf Specialist.
Stuart’s favourite hole: 10thWhat a way to start the back 9! Tee off from an elevated box with out of bounds on the right and trees on the left it is very tricky drive and also on your second shot you have to content with the lake coming in from the left towards a very tight green!
Mark’s favourite hole: 18thA challenging par 4 that can quickly turn a close game on its head, I speak from experience having had to pay for drinks after putting one in the water. Not a long par 4 but definitely a treacherous one if the winds blowing!
Open day and night, Emirates Golf Club’s second championship golf course, which opened in 1996, was named ‘The Wadi’, taken from the Arabic word for ‘valley’. Redesigned in 2005 by golf legend and six-time major winner Nick Faldo, the course now combines a stunning visual design with the nuances and challenges of any championship course in just the right measure, providing visitors an exceptionally enjoyable golfing experience.
The new course was re-named ‘The Faldo’ when it re-opened in October 2006. A par-72, the course has proved to be as popular as its predecessor and lures players to the challenge of its 7,052 yards day or night thanks to incorporated LED floodlights throughout the course.
“The best thing about the Faldo Course at Emirates Golf Club is that fact that’s all 18 holes are fully floodlit. If you’ve not played floodlight golf before, it’s a must at least once! It’s cooler at night, fun and a refreshing change to the standard glorious sunshine you become accustomed to in Dubai! “
“I must also mention the views at night! Emirates Golf Club is located right in the heart of Dubai’s stunning skyline which comes to life at night!”
If you have an appetite for a first-class golfing experience combined with 5-star service and notable prestige from Dubai’s finest golfing destination, The Els Club is for you. Those who appreciate life’s finest pleasures will embrace this true sporting gem which has been sensationally designed by US Open and the Open Championship winner Ernie Els.
The course features pleasing undulations and strong elevation changes for visual and strategic interest. Extensive use of sandy waste areas and of native grasses and vegetation between wide fairways, along with a classic style of bunkering, add to the links effect.
Richards Comments“As a personal favourite, everybody on a Dubai golf holiday simply must play The Els Club. Very well known for many years now as the most pristine and manicured course in the region, as soon as you walk into the courtyard on arrival, you’re greeted by the most amazing view of the putting green, 9th and 18th. It almost looks like a fine water painting!” “The superlatives also don’t end with the course condition, The Els Club have just had Claude Harmon lll take over from his father, Butch Harmon, in the academy. Many of the worlds top professionals use The Els Club as a base and in turn, you can get your game in tip top shape here.”
A brand-new golfing experience in Dubai, the serene, lush lifestyle destination is just 15 minutes for Downtown Dubai and in turn has unrivalled views of the Burj Khlifa and downtown skyline.
Offering a challenge to golfers of all ability, Dubai Hills Golf Club is billed to become one of the key golf destinations in the Middle East.
“As with all new golf courses in Dubai, there was a lot of hype around the opening of Dubai Hills in the winter of 2017 and this course has 100% lived up to expectations.”
“The detail that has gone into the design of the whole resort is top draw, you can really see this even in the fine detail. Walking from green to tee as you meander through pristine flower beds, local wildlife surrounding the purpose-built lakes and the finest views of Downtown Dubai and the stunning Burj Khalifa, all add to a unique golfing experience.”
“Simply a must play for all golfers of all ability when on a Dubai golf holiday.”
