Situated in the Fishhoek Valley, this parkland course is one of Cape Towns best golf courses for golf holidays in South Africa, boasting a unique combination of mountains, sea and lush fairways.
Known for its year round conditioning, the relatively short course possesses a unique character by virtue of its proximity to the sea. The dune lined fairways lead to excellent bent grass; while the many trees create shelter from the strong summer sea breeze.
The rolling computer-irrigated fairways complement visually pleasing water features, which impact the 1st, 10th, 15th and 17th holes. The signature hole is the 4th, a par-4 with out-of-bounds and a stream on the left, and a green guarded by a water hazard. The clubhouse presents a high vantage point not only of the 18th hole, but also the 1st and 10th which both feature sharp doglegs, to the right and left respectively.
We highly recommend this wonderful golf course for your South Africa golf holidays in Cape town.
Rated among the top 3 golf courses to visit in South Africa, Steenberg, nestled in the crook of the Constantiaberg Mountains, lives up to its fame with a charming location. Designed by the eminent golf course architect Peter Matkovich, Steenberg follows his principle that good golf course architects “listen to the land”. Recently voted “Top foreign golf resort” by Conde Nast Traveller readers, Steenberg is one of the most prestigious golf courses for golf holidays in South Africa.
The greens on the course are especially laudable, but the quality of the fairways or the rest of the course is in fact, equally impressive. Signature holes are the 7th and the 14th. Large aprons around the greens are another special feature and the vineyards also provide a unique visual aspect, as well as a charming added hazard.
With five different tee positions the course can be enjoyed by all, from championship to junior level. This superb soft spike course is widely renowned as having the best greens in the Cape.
The Erinvale golf course, designed by the legendary Gary Player, is conveniently located on the borders of Somerset West and only half an hour from the vibrant Cape Town, ideal location for your South Africa golf holidays.
Having hosted the 1996 World Cup of Golf and the second oldest tournament in the world, the prestigious SAA Open in 2003 and 2004, Erinvale is a prime course for golf holidays in South Africa.
Built on a narrow stretch of land which escalates sharply uphill, Erinvale is an estate course with two distinctly different nines. The front nine is flat, winding its way through the park-like terrain estate which calls for challenging approach shots to the long narrow putting surfaces, while the back nine meanders through the foothills of the magnificent Helderberg, with breathtaking views of the False Bay coastline from the top holes.
The signature par-four 17th hole requires golfers to play downhill from an elevated tee, with tall pines flanking one side of the fairway, and an out-of-bounds fence the other.
Situated between the Cape Winelands the Jack Nicklaus designed Pearl Valley Golf Course is surrounded by the picturesque mountains. The open parkland course, fairly flat with numerous bunkers and with water coming into play on most holes is bordered by vineyards and a river runs through it.
Golf legend Jack Nicklaus has used his abundant store of knowledge and experience in the game to develop the most visually spectacular golf course for golf holidays in South Africa. The estate, as well as the course, is post-card perfect in every sense of the word. From the vineyards and orchards that border the course to the mighty Berg River flowing through it to the mountainous backdrops of every hole, playing here is an experience that cannot be adequately described in words.
Golfers need to think their way around this intriguing course and for South Africa golf holidays that includes golf in the Cape Winelands we highly recommend it.
Open day and night, Emirates Golf Club’s second championship golf course, which opened in 1996, was named ‘The Wadi’, taken from the Arabic word for ‘valley’. Redesigned in 2005 by golf legend and six-time major winner Nick Faldo, the course now combines a stunning visual design with the nuances and challenges of any championship course in just the right measure, providing visitors an exceptionally enjoyable golfing experience.
The new course was re-named ‘The Faldo’ when it re-opened in October 2006. A par-72, the course has proved to be as popular as its predecessor and lures players to the challenge of its 7,052 yards day or night thanks to incorporated LED floodlights throughout the course.
“The best thing about the Faldo Course at Emirates Golf Club is that fact that’s all 18 holes are fully floodlit. If you’ve not played floodlight golf before, it’s a must at least once! It’s cooler at night, fun and a refreshing change to the standard glorious sunshine you become accustomed to in Dubai! “
“I must also mention the views at night! Emirates Golf Club is located right in the heart of Dubai’s stunning skyline which comes to life at night!”
If you have an appetite for a first-class golfing experience combined with 5-star service and notable prestige from Dubai’s finest golfing destination, The Els Club is for you. Those who appreciate life’s finest pleasures will embrace this true sporting gem which has been sensationally designed by US Open and the Open Championship winner Ernie Els.
The course features pleasing undulations and strong elevation changes for visual and strategic interest. Extensive use of sandy waste areas and of native grasses and vegetation between wide fairways, along with a classic style of bunkering, add to the links effect.
Richards Comments“As a personal favourite, everybody on a Dubai golf holiday simply must play The Els Club. Very well known for many years now as the most pristine and manicured course in the region, as soon as you walk into the courtyard on arrival, you’re greeted by the most amazing view of the putting green, 9th and 18th. It almost looks like a fine water painting!” “The superlatives also don’t end with the course condition, The Els Club have just had Claude Harmon lll take over from his father, Butch Harmon, in the academy. Many of the worlds top professionals use The Els Club as a base and in turn, you can get your game in tip top shape here.”
A brand-new golfing experience in Dubai, the serene, lush lifestyle destination is just 15 minutes for Downtown Dubai and in turn has unrivalled views of the Burj Khlifa and downtown skyline.
Offering a challenge to golfers of all ability, Dubai Hills Golf Club is billed to become one of the key golf destinations in the Middle East.
“As with all new golf courses in Dubai, there was a lot of hype around the opening of Dubai Hills in the winter of 2017 and this course has 100% lived up to expectations.”
“The detail that has gone into the design of the whole resort is top draw, you can really see this even in the fine detail. Walking from green to tee as you meander through pristine flower beds, local wildlife surrounding the purpose-built lakes and the finest views of Downtown Dubai and the stunning Burj Khalifa, all add to a unique golfing experience.”
“Simply a must play for all golfers of all ability when on a Dubai golf holiday.”
Royal Cape Golf Club is a true championship course having hosted the South African Open and the SA Amateur Championships multiple times. The course has undergone extensive work to match the USGA standards and is now a fine test for golf holidays in South Africa.
South Africa’s oldest golf club emanates a rich history and tradition. With views of Table Mountain from most holes, this course offers a beautiful setting that will make yours South Africa golf holidays truly memorable.
The narrow fairways demand extreme accuracy off the tee, wayward shots can be heavily penalized amongst the trees and the greens are well bunkered. There is also plenty of water on the course, especially at the corner of the 3rd, 4th, 5th and also the 14th, 15th and 16th. The most difficult holes are the par-4 3rd and the par-4 14th.
