During your South Africa golf holiday, you will have the opportunity to play in 4 different outstanding golf courses: Scottburgh, Umkomaas, Selborne Park and Umdoni Park Golf Course.
This gorgeous hotel is definitely the ideal place to enjoy your golf holiday in South Africa. The stunning views, as well as sounds, of the Indian Ocean will have you feeling refreshed and relaxed from start to finish.
The Scottburgh Golf Course has a most attractive setting with views and sounds of the Indian Ocean always in the background. The course is an excellent choice for your golf holidays in South Africa. Comparatively short at 5323m it boasts two par 5’s and five spectacular par 3 holes, with the par 4 third hole being the most talked about hole on the course.
It has the narrowest of fairways with out of bounds on the right and a coastal forest on the left to contend with. Many good rounds of golf has been destroyed on this “white knuckle hole”.
Like all coastal golf courses, Scottburgh can become quite tricky in the wind but one of the most spectacular shots is from the par 4 18th, where one flies the drive over towering trees, into the wild blue yonder to hopefully drop onto the fairway below.
Selborne Park is a course where water features at nearly every hole and where Kwazulu Natal’s lush sub-tropical vegetation provides a vivid carpet of green and splashes of brilliant colour. The golf course meanders through undulating and natural terrain allowing for superb views of the surrounding countryside, a fascinating place for golf holidays in South Africa.
There is a clever variety of holes, fifteen of which feature water that not only enhances the beauty of the layout visually but that also tests the skills of the golfer. The natural beauty cannot be emphasised enough and the resulting atmosphere is that of a tranquil paradise. The par 5 3rd has to be the signature hole at Selborne. From an elevated tee with a marvellous view, the fairway sweeps downhill to the left where there is an out of bounds wooden fence, while on the right there is a thick forest.
The fairway, which continues severely downhill, is narrowed by trees both left and right and leads to a pond some 50 metres in front of the green. The approach, over this water hazard and a large mahogany tree, is then to a large sloping green with more water at the back and to the left.
Umdoni Golf Course has a considerable reputation in Kwa-zulu Natal, being regarded as breathtakingly beautiful and hugely pleasurable to play, ideal for golf holidays in South Africa.
Measuring only 5,560 meters from the tips, it has certainly been adjudged a sufficiently stern test to merit hosting several top KZN amateur events. It is 18 holes over truly striking terrain, with the front 9 running alongside the sea and the back nine stretching inland through dense indigenous forest vegetation.
Umdoni park is anything but flat and it’s elevation changes not only translate into an adventure of judgment and shot-making but provides any number of “view-site moments”. On a fine day, lush fairways underfoot and with the ocean swells just breaking into whitecaps, a round at Umdoni is food for the soul – this is how golf is meant to be.
