Royal Cape Golf Club is a true championship course having hosted the South African Open and the SA Amateur Championships multiple times. The course has undergone extensive work to match the USGA standards and is now a fine test for golf holidays in South Africa.
South Africa’s oldest golf club emanates a rich history and tradition. With views of Table Mountain from most holes, this course offers a beautiful setting that will make yours South Africa golf holidays truly memorable.
The narrow fairways demand extreme accuracy off the tee, wayward shots can be heavily penalized amongst the trees and the greens are well bunkered. There is also plenty of water on the course, especially at the corner of the 3rd, 4th, 5th and also the 14th, 15th and 16th. The most difficult holes are the par-4 3rd and the par-4 14th.
Situated in the Fishhoek Valley, this parkland course is one of Cape Towns best golf courses for golf holidays in South Africa, boasting a unique combination of mountains, sea and lush fairways.
Known for its year round conditioning, the relatively short course possesses a unique character by virtue of its proximity to the sea. The dune lined fairways lead to excellent bent grass; while the many trees create shelter from the strong summer sea breeze.
The rolling computer-irrigated fairways complement visually pleasing water features, which impact the 1st, 10th, 15th and 17th holes. The signature hole is the 4th, a par-4 with out-of-bounds and a stream on the left, and a green guarded by a water hazard. The clubhouse presents a high vantage point not only of the 18th hole, but also the 1st and 10th which both feature sharp doglegs, to the right and left respectively.
We highly recommend this wonderful golf course for your South Africa golf holidays in Cape town.
Ranked as the 4th best course in South Africa and #1 in Western Cape, the Arabella parklands course hugs the Bot River lagoon with spectacular views across the Kogelberg mountain range, stunning location for golf holidays in South Africa.
Designed by Peter Matkovitch, this 18-hole course encompasses the mountain backdrops, lagoon frontage and forests to provide a links, parkland and coastal aspect, while the individual fairways provide corridors from which to savour nature’s true beauty.
An uphill challenge begins the golf experience which continues to be studded with achingly beautiful sights all along, thanks to the undulating slopes. The local water features are quite invigorating and make for a memorable round of golf. The championship layout is especially unyielding when played from the back tees.
If you want to stay and play at a great resort during your South Africa golf holidays this is the perfect place.
The Hermanus Golf Club has held a reputation for excellent year round standards thanks to the dedicated and professional management. With the recent refurbishments giving the course a unique makeover, the Hermanus Golf Club today presents an incredible challenge and experience for your golf holidays in South Africa.
In 2006, the classic country course underwent a major overhaul with the introduction of nine new holes. The course itself was considerably lengthened and the charming and gentle layout of the past has today been replaced with a modern classical design. The gorgeous sea views, mountainous surroundings, charming hospitality and former tradition remain. Yet, this golfing venue has truly reached a new zenith under South Africa’s foremost golf course architect.
Peter Matkovich infused his special brand of flair and experience to maximise the potential on this scenic and gentle landscape. The introduction of visually pleasant grassy mounds adds definition and shape to the holes. Superb new greens and bunkering have also been introduced.
This modern course with a mature parkland feel, is considered one of the best-conditioned courses in South Africa. It is cleverly designed, picturesque, and presents an enjoyable challenge to all levels of golfers. One of our favourite courses, to play here you have to stay be a hotel resident. Serious golfers will love Fancourt and it is the ideal base for South Africa golf holidays.
The Montagu course is named after the mountain pass of the same name and is part of the original 27-hole design at Fancourt by the legendary Gary Player in the early 90s. This classic tree-lined parklands layout underwent a major facelift in 2005 under renowned Scottish golf architect David McLay Kidd.
The upgrade saw two completely new holes, the 1st and the 9th, redefined bunkers and greens and the introduction of several water features such as the dam. Celebrated for its immaculate, round the year conditioning, the Montagu GC is currently ranked at #6 in South Africa, prime location for golf holidays in South Africa (Golf Digest, 2014). The signature hole is the Par-3 17th, reminiscent of the 12th hole at Augusta National, the permanent home of the US Masters.
Named after the mountain range that runs along the garden route, this parkland resort course has aesthetically pleasing design features such as rivulets and colourful gardens. Like its neighbour, the Montague, it is in magnificent condition year round and is a prime location to play golf in South Africa.
Although set in the same surroundings as its better known counterparts, the Outeniqua has developed an individual personality rivalling the others. Excellent water features and creeks interspersed with uphill and downhill challenges and excellent bunkering (recently renovated) are all augmented in the charm and challenge by the colourful flora to be seen throughout the course.
The views from the fairways, the knowledgeable caddies and the quality of the course combine to make this a must play course when on a golf holiday in South Africa.
This championship links style golf course lies high above the heaving Indian Ocean and the vast Knysna lagoon – a sweeping spectacle of fairways and greens rolling through the pristine indigenous landscape.
The terrain of rolling fairways, fynbos and eyebrow bunkers make the course difficult to walk making the use of golf carts a necessity. There are three signature holes, the 13th through 15th and they are all on the cliff that overlooks the Indian Ocean. The downhill holes, matched with classic sweeping fairways winding through forested areas, make for an unforgettable round of golf.
The Pezula Golf Course is one of the top courses in South Africa and we highly recommend playing here on your South Africa golf holidays.
If your golf holidays in South Africa include the Knysna on the Garden Route, we recommend you play at Simola, one of the best courses to play golf in South Africa.
Set high inland, Simola Golf Club, designed by Jack Nicklaus, offers stunning views across the lagoon. A good test whatever your standard of play, the course winds through two valleys and golf carts are a must.
The excellent Bent Grass, smaller than expected of a modern course, in typical Nicklaus fashion, are strategically designed to challenge the golfer to choose the right approach to them to maximise scoring chances. The second tee is in an elevated position and we loved the hang-time driving down into the valley.
