Alpine Golf Sport Club
Follow in the footsteps of Tiger Woods on one of the best and most challenging courses in the Bangkok area with undulating fairways and fast sloping greens. A Ronald M. Garl masterpiece.
Host of the Johnnie Walker Classic in 2000, won of course by Tiger, this is a beautifully designed course which will test every aspect of your game with very few level lies on the fairways and greens that slope away from you making it very difficult to hold your approach.
From the very first hole you will get a taste of what lies in wait over the next few hours – rolling fairways, plenty of water hazards and expertly positioned bunkers.
The short par 4, 4th will tempt the long hitters but if you cut too much off the dogleg then water, bunkers and trees lie in wait. Better to aim for the middle of the fairwaybut this still requires an accurate tee shot to avoid the bunkers around the green.
The pick of the holes on the back nine is the 13th – a par 3 signature hole with a huge bunker and heavily contoured green where any pin placement is tough.
Club house and other facilities are everything you would expect of this top-class course.
Navatanee Golf Course
Easily among the very best courses in Thailand, the experience will more than justify the price. It was not for nothing that Golf Digest rated Navanatee Golf Club as the best in Thailand in 1999, the year it hosted the Thailand Open. Peppered with some truly superb holes, framed by mature trees and vivid bougainvillea, the course presents a scenic challenge to golfers of all levels, especially from the tough back tees. At the signature 6th, a tough 445 yard par-4, even the best players will struggle to make par. Your approach will require a draw that avoids the water that runs down the whole left hand side of the fairway and in front of the green. The outdoor clubhouse restaurant is highly regarded and has great views over the course. After such a fantastic round of golf it seems a little churlish to complain, but the changing rooms could use an upgrade, the only thing that detracts from what should be an essential, if expensive, part or your Thailand golf holiday. Royal Gems Golf and Sports Club

A top quality, exclusive course that is not to be missed.

One of very few Thai golf courses officially accepted as a member of the United States Golf Association, an honour bestowed on only those courses that meet championship standard in terms of both layout and facilities, Royal Gems Golf & Sports Club is a must-play.

As you can imagine, you won't get an easy ride - narrow fairways, deep rough, bunkers and water must all be negotiated before you make it to the insanely fast greens, all adding up to a stylish challenge worthy of any golfer in the world. While the par-5s are tough enough, it is the par-3s that really force you to play your best golf, with forced water carries on 3 out of 4 of them. It's an appropriately named course because it really is a gem, and a relatively hidden one at that given that not many people know about it and the fact that it can prove tough to get tee times, which are only available through a handful of authorised agents. Thankfully for you, we are one of them, so take advantage of the opportunity to play one of the best courses in Asia.

Like the sound of this course? Thai Country Club
One of the most prestigious courses in Thailand; quite simply a must-play.
One of Thailand's most prestigious clubs, with more than 2,000 members paying fees of more than $300,000, Thai Country Club has hosted numerous prestigious events, such as the 1997 Asian Honda Classic when Tiger Woods won by a massive 10 strokes. Fortunately the club, regularly voted in the top 5 in Asia, is open to us non-members at certain times, and really this is an experience not to be missed.
The conditions are naturally pristine - immaculate fairways, lightning greens and tough Bermuda rough. There is plenty of water to punish errant shots though fortunately no hazards that require onerous carries. Interesting pin placements on undulating greens ensure your abilities are continually tested; the 218 yard par-3 6th, with a green dauntingly protected by water and sand, is a spectacular sight and a tremendously difficult proposition. The stroke average even for professionals is a whopping 3.38, which gives you some idea of how highly you should prize a birdie, or even a par. The caddies are probably the best trained in Asia and the clubhouse is a beautiful, award-winning construction with facilities that are second to none. In Thailand, it really doesn't get much better than the Thai Country Club.

Lam Lukka Country Club
Get away from the crowds and the city at this great value course, with challenges to suit the pro and the weekend hacker alike.
Far from the hecticness of Bangkok, Lam Luk Ka Country Club is an oasis of rural charm with 36 holes that wind their way through Bangkok's wetlands, whose numerous trees and waterways are home to a plethora of wildlife.
The upside of its distance from the city is the relative ease of getting a tee time on at least one of the two quality courses, the Championship East Course (comprising the A & B nines) and the Resort West Course (C & D nines). Both are beautifully presented and maintained, and characterised by ever-present water hazards and probably the best putting surfaces in the region. The Championship East course, which hosted the 2002 Thailand PGA Championship, is the longer of the two, with straight drives necessary to avoid the hazards that will quickly punish errant shots. The long 7th and 8th are two of the best par-4s in Bangkok, and the course concludes with a dramatic par-5 which is reachable in two; boldness is either greatly rewarded by an eagle opportunity or harshly punished by the monstrous and greedy deep bunker in front of the green. The West course is shorter and a little less challenging, thereby suitable for a wider range of skill levels, but those looking to take advantage of that and shoot a low score would be well advised not to be complacent as there is water in play on 15 holes; we particularly enjoyed the fact that there are different ways to play many of the holes, so while a long drive is useful it is not necessary. Again it is the 18th that will stick in the memory, with a fairway bisected by a creek and an awkward sloping green.
What the caddies occasionally lack in English skills they make up for with course knowledge, always seeming to know their distances even from the undergrowth in which we sometimes found ourselves. The clubhouse offers everything from an Olympic size pool to quality Thai food in the restaurant that offers a great view of the course. With reasonable green fees, Lam Luk Ka Country Club definitely falls into the 'must play' category.

Muang Kaew Golf
Conveniently located, this solid yet unspectacular course still has enough great holes to make it worth a round or two.
The closest course to central Bangkok is also one of the finest; 20 minutes after leaving your city centre hotel you can find yourself immersed among lakes and trees of Muang Kaew Golf Club, with no sense of how close the city is. Whilst the wide, well maintained fairways are fairly forgiving of all but the most brutal hook or slice, all 18 greens are not only very well guarded by high-lipped bunkers but also occasionally elevated, unusually for Thailand. On the downside, the fairways are very flat and not exactly inspiringly framed, often just running side by side with the previous hole, and the contouring of the putting surface is fairly average.
However, while some of the par-4s are fairly routine, there are some exciting par-3s and par-5s where water hazards push you into some strategic thinking. From the par-5 13th, you have a blind tee shot followed by an approach over a large expanse of water needing a carry of around 150 yards; on the 18th, a hidden pond can punish approach shots that fall short. While there are more interesting challenges in the area, the course has a lot to recommend it, not least its proximity to central Bangkok.

Riverdale Golf Club
A stunning course that is tough to tame. Highly recommended for the above average golfer. From the same designers as the fabulous Red Mountain course in Phuket comes the Riverdale Golf Club, destined to be an essential fixture for years to come. Teeing off down the gentle slope of the first hole, we thought we were in for an easy ride of it; trudging back into the well appointed clubhouse 4 hours later, our scorecard was a mess of dropped shots. Rolling fairways bordered by reed-lined lakes give way to raised greens protected by challenging bunkers on this immaculate links course. If you can make the green, putting can be treacherous with subtle breaks and deceptive slopes. "Rice Mill Corner" plays like the evil twin of the famous "Amen Corner" at Augusta with two tricky par-4s, one a dog-leg and the other long and uphill sandwiching a unique par 3 with a choice of greens. You can either go for the shorter island green or the further postage stamp where pot bunkers await you. Ideally have some fun and hit one ball at each. Being a newly-opened course, many of the trees are yet to reach maturity so the course will tighten over time. Now might be your best chance to shoot a decent score, although this is a challenge that only those with handicap below around 18 should attempt. Like the sound of this course? Suwan Golf Club
prestigious and beautiful, this well maintained course is a challenge for pro and amateur alike. With a tropical feel thanks to the surrounding orchards, paddy fields and lotus ponds, Suwan Golf & Country Club is something of a masterpiece.
Winner of several awards and host of the prestigious 2011 Thailand Open this hilly course is superbly maintained and presents quite a challenge to professional and amateur alike. Flat lies are hard to come by on the contoured fairways, and you will find far more changes in elevation than most courses in the generally flat Bangkok region. Reaching the built up and well protected greens in regulation is no mean feat, and even if you can get there the greens are deceptive and lightning quick. Errant shots are easily punished by OB or water hazards so straight hitting, careful planning and correct club selection are at a premium. Hole 16 is probably the standout, although it is a close run thing (the last 5 holes in particular are a match for anywhere). This mid-length par-3 is surrounded by water, with a contoured green protected by 6 massive bunkers.
The facilities are top notch, as to be expected from such a prestigious course, and the caddies are very highly rated, and you can feel safe relying on their reads of the tricky greens.

Thana City Golf & Country Club
A classic that has stood the test of time; for fans of island greens in particular. This Greg Norman design, host to such prestigious events as the 1993 Thailand Open and the final round of the 1996 Johnnie Walker Super Tour won by Ernie Els, has stood the test of time and is rightfully regarded as something of a classic.
Following extensive renovations in 2010 of both course and clubhouse, it is well placed to compete with the best that the Bangkok region has to offer. Using plain grasses, reeds and abundant sand to create a convincing illusion of seaside golf, a facet enhanced by the natural streams and well positioned bunker traps, Thana City is quite simply a quality course. If you can avoid the abundant high-lipped bunkers and problematic rough, you will find greens that are well maintained and lightning quick, in part thanks to the good drainage that ensures the course is playable all year round. There are plenty of island greens to test your nerve, especially at the standout 18th, where a nervy tee shot down a fairway bordered by water and peppered by awkward bunkers must be followed by a tough long-iron approach to yet another island green. There are many holes where you are happy to walk away with a bogey.
The course can be busy which makes for slow rounds, and occasionally tee times are not strictly enforced which can be annoying. The only other downside is that it is in the flight path of the nearby Suvanabhumi airport; on the other hand, it makes it the ideal place for one final round before your flight home.

The Vintage Club
This excellent course really should be better known. Now you know, take advantage before the crowds descend.
Despite being host of several PGA events and the only Arthur Hills creation in Thailand, the championship course at Vintage Golf Club is less well known than the more illustrious Bangkok courses, which proves surprisingly once you have played this excellent course. The sign at the entrance that proclaims this to be a 'world class golf course' is bold but not entirely unwarranted. This is a classic layout traversing gently rolling terrain and retaining the natural features of the Thai countryside, with plenty to challenge golfers of all ages and abilities, not least the four par-3s. Water is much in evidence - on the standout 5th, it runs all the way along the right of the hole. Playing too far left to avoid it only increases the challenge of reaching the green which also has water behind it. The stretch from 12 through 15 also features a lot of water, placing a premium on accuracy off the tee.
One nice touch that slightly alleviates the challenge is the fact that the day's pin placements are helpfully detailed on the scorecard. Knowledgeable caddies and the availability of excellent practice facilities also help. The Tudor-style clubhouse has undergone a much needed upgrade, so its in excellent condition and everything you need is here, from airy locker rooms and a massage service to a clubhouse restaurant that specialises in Japanese food. Being something of a well-kept secret, getting a tee time at Vintage Golf Club is no problem, and the course is practically empty on weekdays which makes it an attractive proposition. Make sure you save a couple of your best shots for the 18th, a 385 yard par 4 that features a very tricky second shot into a long, narrow green that is bordered by water.

Cascata Golf Club
Avoid the crowds at this well designed links-style course; just steer clear of the deep, testing bunkers. One of the latest additions to the Bangkok area's burgeoning cannon of top quality golf courses is Cascata Golf Club. It may be a little further from Bangkok's city centre than most other courses, but the 27 holes of Scottish links-style golf make the extra journey time more than worth it. Avoid the crowds at this well designed links-style course; just steer clear of the deep, testing bunkers. The openness of the fairways is currently enhanced by the fact that many of the trees are yet to reach maturity, but that is tempered by there being less protection from the wind, which will make it harder to avoid the ubiquitous water hazards and, on the signature 520 yard par-5 12th, the huge waste bunker that runs along the left side of the fairway. Don't be seduced by the relatively large, flat greens though - they are lightning quick, demanding a sure touch, and protected by steep-walled bunkers which seem reluctant to let your ball escape. If you can avoid sand and water however, then some good scores are there for the taking; once the trees have reached maturity, the course will tighten. Its relative newness also means that it is something of an undiscovered treasure, with tee times easy to come by. The Thai food available at the Spanish style clubhouse also has a lot to recommend it. One minor gripe is the compulsory hire of a buggy, which seems unnecessary given the flat terrain and short walks form green to tee, but that aside, you should book a round on this high quality course now before everyone else realises what a good idea it is. Green Valley Golf and Country Club
Book in advance to ensure a round on this challenging, well-kept and conveniently located course. If you are looking to get in a quick round on the day you arrive or depart, then the Green Valley Country Club, conveniently located close to Suvanabhumi International Airport, is probably your best bet. Making a good score is not quite so straightforward however, and the water bordering the opening holes is simply a sign of further hazards ahead. On many courses the par-5s are usually a good bet to pick up a shot or two, but that's not really the case here, with all four of them playing long and tough. The 18th, with water on both sides of the fairway, has ruined many a scorecard at the death, and that's ignoring those who have already succumbed to the island green at the signature par-3 14th. However, if you end up losing more golf balls than you would have liked, the luxurious clubhouse is the ideal place to drown your sorrows in relaxing, opulent surroundings. If an ice cold beer isn't for you, then the jacuzzi or thai massage can do a similar job. Booking a tee time in advance is a must at Green Valley Country Club, which for good reason is a popular choice among locals, expats and holidaymakers alike. Like the sound of this course? Legacy Golf Club
A great designer course for a very reasonable mid-market price.
The only course in the Bangkok region fortunate enough to have the paw prints of the Great Bear all over it, the Legacy Golf Club is a minefield of waste bunkers, water hazards and tight approaches that gives a risk/reward feel to a large number of holes. Although in the rainy season the fairways can be a bit soggy, making a long course play even longer (particularly from the "Jack" tees), the course is generally in excellent condition given it is so popular.
The two huge lakes between which the course was built factor into around half the holes, and most greens are well protected by intimidating bunkers which put a premium on accurate approach play. The par-4 16th has an island green where carrying water and sand is necessary to avoid dropping precious shots, but the greens run true (although frighteningly fast at times) so if you can get there you shouldn't get any nasty surprises.
Overall, not off-puttingly difficult but a challenge for all levels of ability. Make sure to leave time after your round for a meal at the well regarded Japanese restaurant, and perhaps make a day of it by visiting Safari World next door.

Bangkok Golf Club
One of the closest courses to the city it was extensively damaged during the flooding in 2011 so lost many of its mature trees. Quite a short course but plenty of challenges to keep most golfers
Bangkok Golf Club is another course which is very close to the city and it normally takes about 35 minutes to reach this course from most hotels in Bangkok. This is also one of the older golf courses in Bangkok and was constructed in the 1990’s and has over the years hosted many professional events. During the floods that inundated Bangkok in 2011 the course was totally covered by the water and this killed off many of the mature trees which has made the course somewhat easier than in the pre-flood days. Apart from this the course has fully recovered and is open for play.
The fact that Bangkok golf club is so close to the city means that it is also close to the built up areas and in the immediate proximity are temples, schools, housing estates and factories. Much of the course is protected by high walls and you are partially insulated from the surroundings and can imagine that you are in the middle of the countryside.
This is a pretty short golf course and is only 6,800 yards from the championship tees but this does not mean that this course is a pushover as there are plenty of hazards lying in wait for the golfer that lacks concentration.
It seems obvious but if you want to play to your handicap then you need to avoid the sand and water hazards especially at the very well designed par-3’s he pick of which is the 11th which features an island green protected not only by the water but by a large bunker. The 9th hole is a zigzag dog-leg par-5 that once made the top 500 holes in the world as voted by one leading golf magazine.
The club house at Bangkok Golf Club includes all of the usual facilities including traditional Thai massage and restaurants serving Japanese and western food with simple accommodation also available onsite. The club is also floodlit which is ideal for those who like to tee off late or play after work.
If you want to include a round of golf at Bangkok Golf Club then we can secure the perfect tee time at this and the other Bangkok golf courses and if you are heading to other part of Thailand then a round at Bangkok Golf Club is a great way to start your Thailand golf holiday.
Rachakram Golf Club
One for the long hitters looking for great value. A fairly recent addition to the plethora of Bangkok golf courses, Rachakram Golf Club's links style course remains a fairly well kept secret.
The open spaces in front of most greens mean you can run your ball up to the putting surface, making it an ideal course for those tired of the target golf design of most other courses in the area. Given that many of the trees are yet to mature, the course has quite an open feel that is currently fairly forgiving of wayward shots. Over time this will change, but for now if you can master the lightning quick greens and avoid the well maintained bunkers and occasionally hidden water hazards you should be able to shoot a good score, particularly if you are a long hitter - there is only one par-3 where you wont be reaching for a wood or rescue club, and the par 5s are all fairly epic, especially into the wind where getting there in two is a task of John Daly-sized proportions.
Being further out than most courses form Bangkok, it has the advantage of being a lot less crowded so take advantage of the reasonable green fees and get in a quick, enjoyable round (even at night, an option here) at Rachakram Golf Club.

Bangpoo Golf & Sports Club
A good option for the budget conscious golfer, this Arnold Palmer designed course is graced by cooling sea breezes that make it a great choice for a really hot day.
For golfers, the epithet 'The King' refers not to Mr. Presley but to Arnold Palmer, and at Bangpoo Golf & Sports Club you can test yourself on one of the few Arnold Palmer creations in Asia. Although set by the sea, there is less water to contend with than most other courses in the area, meaning the average golfer should be able to score well; however the strong, cooling breezes and rolling terrain mean you shouldn't get too complacent. Many newer golf courses these days seem peppered with saplings, but Bangpoo Golf & Sports Club has been open long enough for that not to be an issue, and the beautiful flowers make this course particularly picturesque.
Some fairways are a little worn and could do with some work, and it can be difficult to find, but the cheap green fees that make this course so popular with the locals are more than enough to compensate for such minor gripes.

Kiarti Thanee Country Club
This easily accessible course is perfect for the high handicapper, and there to be attacked by the more confident golfer. A particular favourite of the local Japanese, perhaps on account of the nationality of its designer, and easily accessible for those staying in the centre of Bangkok, Kiarti Thanee Country Club is especially suited to high handicappers or more experienced golfers looking to shoot a moral boosting score. Unless you are looking to challenge yourself, which you can do simply by playing from the , the wide, flat fairways and fairly short par-5s mean that a slight hook or slice won't get you into too much trouble; however, more serious errors will be punished by numerous water hazards and bunkers, so don't get too complacent. You can also lose shots to the long-hitting aggressive player who should be able to reach some of the par-5s in two, so safe and steady isn't necessarily the way to go, particularly on the 18th where a bold approach can reap dividends. Caddies may occasionally not be quite up to the standards expected in Thailand (it's the luck of the draw), and the clubhouse and restaurant are fairly unremarkable, but it's the course that really counts and in that respect Kiarti Thanee Country Club is an excellent place to play a relaxing round and, hopefully, make a birdie or two. Lakewood Country Club
short distance from the city this 27-hole layout has four different nines each with their own unique design and character but whatever combination you play you will find it suitable for most players.
The Lakewood Golf Club is built on a wide expanse of open countryside integrated with luxury housing and although the terrain is pretty flat and featureless the golf course has been expensively landscaped with many different varieties of local of plants and trees.
The course has four separate 9-hole layouts. Three of the courses (Rock, Lake and Wood, are pretty similar with the occasional dogleg and the usual strategically placed water hazards and sand traps protecting the challenging greens. The course usually plays well in all weather conditions so is a good choice if rain is expected as it drains well.
In general the fairways at Lakewood Golf Club are wide and forgiving but the coursed plays long because the lush grass will grab your ball so you won’t get much roll except in the driest of conditions and you often have to contend with the prevailing wins which inevitably will be blowing into your face. The rough is thick and can cost you a dropped shot or worse especially when it is long and rough just after the rainy season.
The par-3’s at Lakewood are outstanding and the 7th hole on the wood nine is particularly memorable requiring a long and accurate tee shot to avoid the water hazard which stretches across the fairway.
Great caddies which will add to your enjoyment of this Bangkok golf course and being close to the airport this is an ideal venue for your last golf round in Bangkok.
If you want to play a round of golf at Lakewood Golf Club then we can help you secure the perfect tee time here and t any of the other and the other Bangkok golf courses. If you are heading to other parts of Thailand then a round at Lakewood Golf Club is a great way to start your Thailand golf holiday.
Panya Indra Golf Club
A beautiful, challenging course; pick your tee time carefully to avoid the rush.
The jewel in the crown of The Panya Group, who own several courses around Thailand, the Panya Indra Golf Club comprises three individualistic championship 9-hole courses beautifully landscaped into the beautiful countryside. You can expect palm tree-lined fairways, undulating greens bordered by colourful flowers and bunkers that seem freshly built. There is plenty of water to negotiate, especially on the aptly named Lagoon course, but don't assume that you can necessarily keep your ball dry on the Palm or Garden nines which have plenty of water-hazards of their own, and in the case of the former, an island green. If you can avoid all these obstacles and make it to the green in one piece, you won't get an easy ride - there doesn't appear to be a single flat spot on any of them; equally the fairways are uniquely contoured meaning that you constantly find yourself hitting from the centre of the fairway with the ball above or below your feet.
It's easy to struggle round here, but the course is so picturesque that you won't mind too much. The only real issue is that of slow-play - a certain degree of mismanagement from the starter means that you can occasionally get caught up in real traffic and spend over 5 hours on a round. Fortunately, you don't have to race the sun as when the sun sets at Panya Indra Golf Club, the floodlights come on.

Rose Garden Golf Club
A highly regarded course in a beautiful setting and with less of a premium on long hitting it will appeal to many.
Established in 1972, Rose Garden Golf Club is one of the oldest and, thanks to its staging of the 1992 Thailand open and subsequently being rated in the top 24 courses worldwide by two international golf magazines is one of the most renowned in the country. A welcome tonic to the immature trees that line the fairways of newer courses, here the course wanders through thick vegetation and especially between January and April, the blooming flowers from which the course takes its name. While it plays quite short from the white tees, heavily bunkered greens and well placed water hazards put a premium on approach play (no dribbling onto the front here) and providing a challenge to golfers of all levels. Uniquely, each hole has two greens, thus ensuring that they are always well maintained, and furthermore allowing a different challenge each time you play. The highlight is probably the par-5 17th where you have to flirt with the trees on the left to leave yourself a chance to make the well-protected green in two.
The clubhouse has seen better days and the service wasn't up to the standard of some other courses, but with relatively cheap green fees and an excellent course we can overlook that.

Subhapruek Golf Club
A challenging, scenic course with a dramatic finish, with accuracy the name of the game.
Built upon a fairly uninspiring landscape, Subhapruek Golf Club has matured into a scenic golf course, with very little of the outside world visible above the tree-line. Highly rated in the Bangkok area for its challenging layout involving palm tree-lined fairways, sculpted bunkers and substantial water hazards, this is not a course for those who struggle to consistently hit straight, and there is very little benefit to hitting long distances. Instead, accuracy is the name of the game, particularly on the challenging par-3s which all involve tee shots over water. Even if you can play the controlled, accurate golf required of a good score, it is easy to come unstuck at the end, where an island green 16th is followed by a testing par-4 that wraps around a lake that punishes even the slightest fade. The 18th is similarly lined with water, with its waterfall backdrop making it one of the prettiest holes in world golf.
On the downside, this is a busy course with wear and tear evident on some fairways and greens, and there were too many unraked bunkers for our liking, but given the reasonable green fees you shouldn't let that put you off a round here.

Krung Kavee Golf Course & Country Club
A friendly, 'green' experience for golfers of all abilities; make sure to dine at the superb onsite Thai restaurant. Practicing 'green' maintenance, the Krung Kavee Golf & Country Club Estate eschews harmful pesticides and herbicides, allowing the local exotic fauna to bloom in all its glory. This policy hasn't harmed the course one bit, its quality playing surface providing perfect lies and offering you the chance to use your fairway woods to tame the generally long par-4s. Furthermore, this is one of the few courses that doesn't suffer in rainy season, its excellent drainage system guarding against the standing water that can be an annoying feature elsewhere after a heavy storm. Landing your ball on an island green is always a satisfying experience, and the one here is generously sized allowing golfers of all abilities the opportunity to putt for a birdie. This is an opportunity you should definitely take as holes 6, 7, and 8 are par-4s that only long hitters will reach in regulation. On our visit we were met by warm, genuine smiles and they even sent out some complimentary golf carts to us so we could finish before dark; while the clubhouse was unspectacular, the onsite restaurant makes up for it by using only fresh ingredients in the preparation of some of the best Thai food in the area. President Country ClubA variety of challenges on this varied course. Elsewhere on the web you will read about how every hole is designed to be unique, and while this is something of an overstatement the President Country Club does indeed offer a wide range of challenges to keep golfers of all levels interested.
The North/East course is the harder of the two, full of tricky dog-legs and small greens protected by water and substantial amounts of sand; your approach play needs to be strong to avoid the dreaded bogeys. Both courses have deceptively wide fairways - even when you land on them you can find yourself with a tough second shot to the green so position is important. If you are particularly wayward you can find yourself in some tricky Bermuda rough that will often force you to lay up.
The undulating fairways of the West course present an enjoyable challenge, involving avoiding marshland and small lakes and culminating in an excellent par-5. Whilst green fees at President Country Club are reasonable, the condition of the course is not what it once was - the tee boxes are often worn out and full of sandy divots and some of the fairways have seen better days, and while the clubhouse has a pleasant Mediterranean feel to it, the restaurant isn't really up to scratch. However, you're not really there for the food anyway, so just enjoy what should be an excellent day's golf.

Summit Windmill Golf Club
Short but tricky, this course has a good natural feel where the choice of tees makes a huge difference to the challenge you face.
Conveniently located close to the city centre, Summit Windmill Golf Club is another of Nick Faldo's innovative creations and home to a wide array of flora and fauna which make it particularly picturesque. It makes up for its lack of length by proving a true test of every golfer, its contoured fairways, elevated greens and plentiful water hazards keeping you on your toes, particularly on the very long (624 yards) 1st and the exciting 18th. The par-3s are excellent, especially the 12th with its island green, and there are plenty of opportunities to take risks in search of those elusive birdies - the 9th is probably the standout hole, where you have to commit to a tee shot over the water than runs along the entire left side of the fairway. If you play it too safe you'll end up in sand, but the perfect tee shot is rewarded with a straightforward mid-iron to the green.
At Summit Windmill Golf Club it's crucial to pick the right tees for your level - from the black tees the island tees and awkward angles can make it a long day, especially with so many bunkers in front of greens designed to trap those who leave themselves too much to do with their second shot. It's best to avoid playing in rainy season as the course can flood due to inadequate draining, a problem which doesn't look like being rectified given the course is open constantly as it offer the option of night golf. Further, the clubhouse, which seems so opulent from outside, seems to be in an almost constant state of renovation and the prevalence of gambling big shots taking ages over every shot can occasionally lead to frustration. However, if you can play during the week and at the right time of year, this course has much to recommend it.

Thanont Golf View & Sports Club
Nothing spectacular, but if you are in the area for Safari World it's worth a look.
Popular largely thanks to being easy to reach and its proximity to other attractions such as Dream World and Safari World, Thanont Golf View & Sport Club is an accomplished course with more than its fair share of island greens. Despite being wide open and flat it provides a challenge to those looking to shoot low scores whilst allowing higher handicappers to give a good account of themselves. Large fairway bunkers feature heavily, placing a premium on accuracy off tees that are set quite far back meaning many holes play quite long - for example, the opening hole is a 463 yard par-4 monster where your tee shot must avoid out-of-bounds on the left and a series of bunkers on the right whilst also being long enough to give you a shot at getting to the green in two. A par here is no mean feat. Both nines finish with tough holes that edge around the same huge lake, meaning many a round has come to a watery end.
Some reports of slow play due to the course allowing groups of 5 or 6 mean you should probably look to play during the week.

Windsor Park & Golf Club
Three nines of classic parkland gold and one nine which is an extreme challenge. Slow greens make approach shots easier.
Boasting two 18 hole championship courses (a new nine, Lakeside, was added in 2006), Windsor Park & Golf Club is a longstanding favourite of Japanese and Korean Golfers. The original three nines (Lagoon, Palm and Garden) are fairly similar, comprising frequent dog-legs, contoured fairways and large, well manicured greens which are kept slow to speed up play (with the added bonus that it is easier to keep long irons on the green). The Lagoon / Palm combination is classic parkland golf, colouful plants and trees providing a delightful backdrop to some tough holes where driving straight is the only way to avoid substantial bunkers or a menacing water hazard. The third hole of the Palm course probably has the most extensive collection of bunkers you will ever encounter, so it's probably a good idea to practice your bunker shots on the driving range before your round. Even tougher is the new nine, which is set around a massive man-made lake and features greens that are faster and more contoured. The standout hole here is the par 5 3rd, which has water down the entire left side and out-of-bounds on the right. The long, narrow green sits at a strange angle to the fairway and is protected by water making any approach shot a nervy one.
If you fancy this extreme challenge, take our advice and request an experienced caddy, as some of the newer ones are no help at all with reading putts. A slight bit of wear and tear in the locker rooms and fairly average course upkeep are the only real downsides to what is a deservedly popular course.
