Dubai Creek Golf Course
While a golf connoisseur does expect the best of off-course facilities, nothing excites him as much as the quality of the golf courses itself. And whether it is the design, the ambience, the challenge level, the efficiency of operations, or the immaculate maintenance – it just doesn’t get any better than at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. The par 71 course that measures 6,857 yards is a memorable journey from the first tee to the 18th green. The superbly manicured fairways are undulating, demarcated by mounds, date and palm trees, and most other times by water. Apart from the Creek, which comes into play on at least four holes, several artificial lakes add to the beauty and difficulty of various other holes.
Al Badia Golf Club
Al Badia Golf Club by InterContinental Dubai Festival City boasts an 18-hole championship golf course designed by the renowned Robert Trent Jones II, as well as award winning club house facilities. This serene and picturesque setting beautifully complements the five dynamic bars and restaurants of Al Badia Golf Club, including the signature Terra Firma steakhouse the Asian-fusion Blades restaurant, chic Tee Lounge and exclusive Trents bar. Capturing the character and beauty of Arabia, the finely manicured grounds showcase a magical desert oasis theme, including 11 lakes, several ponds and numerous cascading waterfalls. Plants and trees are indigenous to the Arabian Gulf, while the rivers of sand concept adds further texture to the design providing a visual extension of the lakes and streams. A challenge for the seasoned golfer, Al Badia also welcomes the recreational player. The par-72, 7,303-yard course offers four tee positions on each hole, giving every handicap an appropriate level of play.
Emirates Golf - Majlis Course
The flagship course at Emirates Golf Club, The Majlis championship course is a challenging par 72, layout. Sculptured around the original tall desert dunes in 1987, The Majlis was the first grass course in the Middle East and takes its name from the Arabic word for meeting place. One of the most prominent features on the course is the Majlis positioned between the 8th and 9th holes, while one of the most challenging holes on the course is the par 4, dogleg 8th. Stroke index 3 and playing a full 434 yards, it has the unusual distinction of playing up-hill and requires a long, well directed drive to leave a reasonable second shot to its small, undulating green where the dreaded 3-putt is always a threat. The Majlis has developed a worthy reputation worldwide as a testing layout for even the best golfers. This desert miracle features hundreds of indigenous species of flora and fauna, beautifully complemented by meandering fairways and seven fresh and saltwater lakes. Dubai Desert Classic Host course: 1989 - 1990, 1992 - 1998, 2001 – 2008.
Jumeirah Golf Estates EARTH course
This course and its sister course Fire, opened in 2009 and are the first Greg Norman designs in the Gulf. The owners have allowed this course to be open for two years so that it has matured before opening it to the public. The fairways are fairly open which could be considered generous, but take care as the greens are large and sloping and you could leave yourself with a series of long and difficult putts due to excellent pin placement. The fairways are surrounded by bleached white sand bunkers and this same sand was imported from North Carolina. Outside of the fairways and bunkers you will find wood chip which makes your ball easy to find, but not so easy to hit once you have found it! This looks like a great course to play!
Jumeirah Golf Estates FIRE course
This Fire course is very different to its sister Earth course. Here the onus is much more on strategy, where the need to place your ball and think your way around the course give you your good score. This course is framed by the natural flora you would expect and is visually stunning, fitting in with its natural setting.
Arabian Ranches Golf Course
The Arabian Ranches Golf Club, formerly known as The Desert Course, Arabian Ranches, was built as a true 18 hole, par 72, desert style grass course, a signature course designed by Ian Baker-Finch in association with Nicklaus Design. Miss the immaculate grass of the fairways and greens and you enter the sandy waste, with its indigenous shrubs and bushes. All standards of golfer will also appreciate the GPS (Global Positioning System) yardage service available on every golf cart. Quote from Ian Baker-Finch Arabian Ranches Golf Club is a unique concept and a wonderful opportunity for Baker-Finch Design to begin an association with the Nicklaus Design company based in my home area of North Palm Beach Florida. My design associate, Mr. Dirk Bouts and I spent many days on site walking through the sand dunes with the camels before deciding on the best use of this unique property. I love the natural desert terrain and landscape that we found here. Our design concept for this golf course was to build a true desert style course similar to those found in Palm Springs, California and Scottsdale, Arizona in this beautiful desert setting. Our design brief was to extend, elongate the routing throughout the desert as much as possible, creating an oasis effect throughout the Arabian Ranches property. Hence the front nine/back nine loops back to the clubhouse which also makes for an ideal tournament course and setup. 1st and 10th tees close to the putting green and practice area and the 9th and 18th greens coming back underneath the clubhouse with expansive crowd and corporate viewing opportunities. My hope is that you will love the natural flow of the holes through the sand dunes and wonderful desert landscape. Many of the holes incorporate some of the truly great design concepts throughout the history of golf course architecture. I have played many of the top courses around the world during my travels and the truly great ones continue to entice me back year after year. I believe that Arabian Ranches Golf Club at Arabian Ranches will excite you and continue to entice you back as well.
The Els Club
Stretching 7,538 yards with four sets of tees allowing players a selection of differing lengths from which to play, The Els Club is to set a new benchmark for golf in Dubai from April 2008. The course will offer players a challenging round accompanied by all the essential facilities that extend beyond the immaculate fairways and greens. Set on undulating slopes of native desert vegetation, it is a links style layout combining traditional classic design.
The Montgomerie Golf Course Dubai
Although The Montgomerie, Dubai has evolved into one of the Middle Easts most luxurious and desirable golfing destinations in recent times, the key to its success has always remained contingent upon the quality of the golf course that would become the focal point for one of Dubais most exclusive residential communities, Emirates Hills. The Montgomerie, Dubais championship golf course was designed by Colin Montgomerie in association with Desmond Muirhead. The course covers 265 acres which consist of 123 acres of turf, 49 acres of man-made lakes (a total of 14 lakes), 93 acres of landscaped gardens and is scattered with 81 large bunkers. The course provides the player with undulating "links land" style fairways with generous landing areas which challenge and intrigue all levels of player. Although large in size, the greens can be very misleading, especially as they are consistently rolling above 9.5feet. Plenty of shape throughout the greens can result in some very trying putts. One of the signature holes is the par 5 fourth, dubbed the Snake hole for its saddleback fairway which doglegs towards the green, with two bunkers behind forming the eyes of the snake. Further on, the par 5 ninth, with water down the left, is a tough finish to the opening half. The par 3 thirteenth, a hole designed in the shape of the UAE, boasts a 360 degree teeing area around an island fairway and green, allowing for a completely different golf hole to be played every time. However, it is the par 5 eighteenth that offers a more classic test. At 656 yards it is a monster and, with water protecting the front of the green, it defies even the best player to hit the green in two. The Montgomerie, Dubai offers two very different seasons of golf. During winter, the golf course is over-seeded whilst the summer season has the course back to a full stand of Bermuda grass. The turf growth is vigorous during the summer resulting in a very challenging rough.
Emirates Golf Club - Faldo Course
Emirates Golf Clubs second championship golf course was opened in 1996 and was christened The Wadi, taken from the Arabic word for valley. In 2005, The Wadi was redesigned by six-time major winner Nick Faldo and the new Wadi by Faldo re-opened in October 2006. Also a par-72, the course has proved to be as popular as ever and lures players to the challenge of its 7,433 yards. Faldo’s trademark tees and bunkers have combined with the naturally rugged terrain to create a unique golfing experience. A natural wadi running the length of the course comes in to play without being classified as a hazard. The Wadi by Faldo has surpassed all of its expectations and is destined to be regarded as one of the finest courses in Dubai.
