We-Ko-Pa Golf Club - Cholla Course
Located in Fountain Hills, on the east edge of Scottsdale, We-Ko-Pa (the Yavapai pronunciation for "Four Peaks Mountain") presents a unique alternative to the already upscale Scottsdale golf market. Designed by noted golf course architect Scott Miller, the golf course was created to play a challenging 7,225 yards from the back tees, but with multiple tee boxes that are well spaced to cater to players of all calibers. In addition, there are no -- nor will there ever be -- residences on the golf course, yielding some of the most dramatic and natural views of the surrounding mountain ranges including the Four Peaks, McDowell Mountains, Red Mountains and the Superstitions.
Grayhawk Golf Club - Raptor
The Raptor is 18 holes by Tom Fazio with Crenshaw Bent-grass greens and one of the finest desert layouts in the valley. It offers tremendous views of the desert and surrounding foothills and should not be missed during a visit to Arizona.
Grayhawk Golf Club - Talon
The Talon hosted the 1997 Andersen Consulting World Championship of Golf and is a perfect example of desert golf. It has water on only three holes; however, the par-3 17th has an island green that you won't soon forget. It offers tremendous views of the desert and surrounding foothills and should not be missed during a visit to Arizona.
We-Ko-Pa Golf Club - Saguaro Course
The design objective of the brand new Saguaro course at We-ko-pa Golf Club is to complement the original Cholla course, and present players the ability to play 36 holes of phenomenal golf in a single location. The landscape of the new Saguaro course features fascinating movement that has allowed Crenshaw and Coore to design a course that is unique to the desert, and differ from the original Cholla course. The championship layout will challenge players of all skill levels with a beautifully fair test of golf, and will require them to play a variety of shots and find solutions to unusual challenges. Fashioned with walking in mind, Saguaro is a refreshing classic throwback to golf course design. Tees are located near the preceding green, and are often part of the same turf complex. Beware; the stunning scenery of Saguaro may cause unfocused players to slip into reverie.
Westin Kierland Golf Club
Since it opened in 1996, Kierland has been applauded as one the best courses in the desert. Scott Miller's dynamic 27-hole design challenges the golfer with changes in elevation, more than 300 bunkers, dry desert washes, stands of desert trees, and a variety of water hazards. For after-golf delights, the 19,000-square-foot clubhouse features the Brittlebush Bar & Grill. The course also now features air-conditioned golf carts, definitely a first!
TPC Scottsdale - Stadium Course
Beautifully set within the Sonoran Desert, and surrounded by the regal McDowell Mountains, TPC Scottsdale's Stadium course radiates the pure essence of its arid topography. The Stadium course boasts spacious fairways, and the surrounding desert landscape of saguaro cacti, mesquite trees, strategically placed bunkers, and prodigious mounding, creates straightforward shot values insisted upon by its architect, Tom Weiskopf. Precise approach shots are the key to scoring well, as the moderately large, multi-tiered, and undulating greens, will penalize inaccurate shots. Treat yourself, and play where the PGA Tour pros play the annual Waste Management Phoenix Open!
TPC Scottsdale - Champions Course
Rivaling its famous sister course in both beauty and playability, the brilliantly crafted Randy Heckenkemper designed Champions Course offers the consummate desert golf experience. Featuring 7,115 yards of undulating Bermuda fairways, pristine greens and challenging bunkers, the par-71 course meanders over natural ravines and picturesque foothills, with five par-3's and a diverse variety of par-4's and par-5's to thrill golfers of all skill levels. A quartet of dramatic finishing holes make this golf gem a "must play."
