Our Recommended Courses
Santa Ponsa
The beach at Santa Ponsa was where James I, King of Aragon, landed when he re-conquered Mallorca from the Arab ruling Moors in 1229.
Santa Ponsa’s place in the golfing chapter of Mallorca’s history is also assured. The No. 1 course was designed by Folco Nardi and José Gancedo and opened in 1977, clearly with championships in mind. It also hosted the European Tour six times between 1988 and 1998 and stretching beyond 6,200 meters (6,800 yards) from the yellow tees, it’s still one of the longest layouts on the island. Fortunately, the course also has wide fairways and is normally set up with manageable green speeds.
T-Golf Calvia
The course measures 6,426 meters (7,069 yards) from the back tees for a par of 72 and three of the four short holes are ranked among the more difficult on the card. Seven of the ten two-shotters measure in excess of 360 meters (400 yards), so unless you really hit it far you are not going to be hitting a lot of wedges into the greens. Instead, there are scoring opportunities among the four par fives, all of which are ranked among the easier holes on the layout.
Real Golf de Bendinat
Just 25 minutes after leaving the airport, you’ll arrive at Real Golf de Bendinat. Located in the centre of the luxurious Bendinat residential development, it features the imposing Bendinat Castle as a stunning backdrop. The course, which was originally 9-holes when constructed in 1986, was extended to 18 holes in 1995 under the direction of architect Martin Hawtree. Bendinat Golf Course is tricky to play well. Nestled between the valleys and hillsides you’ll find blind tee shots, doglegs, some tight fairways, and greens bordered with pine trees. From the elevated tee boxes you’ll have some stunning views over the hillside and down to the bay of Palma. At 5,660m (par-70) this is one of the shorter courses on the island. Due to the hilly terrain, buggies are more or less essential.
