The Grove

The Grove's Golfing Legacy: A Masterpiece by Kyle Phillips

Amidst a grand fanfare of publicity, The Grove's exceptional golfing complex made its grand debut, proudly designed by none other than the renowned Kyle Phillips, acclaimed for his awe-inspiring work at Kingsbarns. With high expectations, The Grove's fantastic layout did not disappoint, living up to its well-deserved acclaim. In 2006, it played host to the prestigious American Express World Golf Championship, attracting the world's finest professionals, including the former world no. 1, Tiger Woods, who clinched victory.

Continuing its legacy as a top-tier golfing destination, The Grove warmly welcomed back the British Masters in 2016, marking the event's return to The European Tour schedule after an 8-year hiatus. The tournament was hosted by the esteemed former world no. 1, Luke Donald, adding another chapter to The Grove's storied golfing history.

Our Recommended Courses

The Grove

The Grove is one of the newer and most enterprising golf course projects recently undertaken in England. Designed by Kyle Phillips (the man behind Kingsbarns), the course opened for play in September 2003 to rave reviews and its already considered by some to be one of the best new golf courses inside the M25. The Grove is not your typical golf club. In fact, it isn’t a golf club at all – it’s a pay-and-play golf course open to everyone.

More than a decade on, it's a venture that seems successful. It was hard to imagine a course (and the facilities) of this quality without a club and associated members attached. The Grove has certainly attracted many pay-and-play guests and, what's more, they all receive an amiable welcome. All the staff are focused on customer service and they will do their level best to cater for your every whim. This is probably the closest US resort or private club experience you'll find on this side of the pond.

Centurion Club

The Centurion Club is located to the west of St Albans in rural Hertfordshire countryside and we were invited to play the course shortly after its official opening. With woodland flanking the first five holes, there’s a feeling of maturity from the off and there’s more than a passing resemblance on these early holes to those located at nearby Brocket Hall and a few miles further north at Woburn. There’s an open country feel at 6 and 8 though 13 (reminiscent of the London Club) and from 14 to 18 you are transported to Grove-like holes.
