Mauritius Revisited's Mark & Marcella Return to Paradise

It had been three years since my last visit to Mauritius and I felt a trip was needed to get up to speed with the changes on the island. With Marcella and I now being empty nesters, it was great to go away on a 'work trip' together. We flew out of Dublin via Dubai with Emirates, which was faultless.

Day 1 – Arriving to a Sunny Festive Mauritius and straight onto the Heritage golf course

We arrived after a stress-free journey, quickly exiting the modern airport into the warm Mauritius morning. We were driven along the south coast by our concierge Clifford from Emotions, passing a Tamil religious festival en route to the hotel. The bright colors immediately made us feel far from home.

Within an hour of arrival at the Heritage Awali Golf and Spa Resort, I was on the Heritage golf course. I played with the South African golf director Jonathan Menteath and his friend Nico from Legends Golf and Safari resort in SA. The weather was perfect, 28°C with a lovely breeze, and we played until sunset. I heard about the upcoming second course, which I look forward to playing.

Marcella and I enjoyed an early dinner at Infinity Blue restaurant by the beach, ending our first day back in Mauritius perfectly.

Day 2 – Catching up with Golf Developments in Mauritius

Another paradise day with beach, massage, food, beer, and a meeting with my old friend Michael Geerdharry at Heritage Le Telfair Resort. We discussed golf developments on the island and enjoyed a meal at the Mauritian-Asian style Zafarani restaurant at Heritage Awali.

Day 3 – Meeting an old friend at the new Avalon Golf Club

We visited Avalon Golf Club, meeting with Estate Manager Ryan Dodds. Marcella and I enjoyed this Peter Matkovitch course with views of the ocean, tea plantations, and mountains. After golf, we crossed the island to Anahita Golf and Spa Resort, ending the day with a wonderful dinner on the veranda.

Day 4 – Some welcome downtime at Anahita Golf and Spa Resort

We relaxed around the pool at Anahita Resort, treated to a truly top-class experience. We visited the renovated One&Only Le Saint Geran resort for dinner with Emotions' manager Rheena and her husband Martin, enjoying a memorable meal in excellent company.

Day 5 – An early golf game at Anahita then onto Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok

I was the first out on the Anahita Golf Course, enjoying the forgiving tee boxes and challenging greens. We then moved to Shangri-La's Le Touessrok, enjoying the more relaxed and informal atmosphere and the lively beach sundowner session.

Day 6 – A golf transfer with a difference – off to Ile Aux Cerfs course by boat!

We played on the iconic Ile Aux Cerfs course, with a boat ride to the island, an immaculately maintained course, and post-match drinks and lunch in the clubhouse. It was an experience that will live long in memory.

Day 7 – The ultimate in laid-back luxury – a relaxing day on a private island!

We spent the day at Shangri La's Le Touessrok's private island Ilot Mangenie, enjoying sun loungers, stunning beaches, and world-class food. We then moved to the Four Seasons Mauritius, enjoying a beachfront villa with a private pool.

Day 8 – On your bike!

We hired bikes for a ride through the cane fields and down the east coast. Later, we moved to Constance Prince Maurice Resort, enjoying the elegant atmosphere and excellent meal at the Asian Restaurant.

Day 9 – Epicureans & wine lovers, be ready!

We played the Links course at Constance Hotels, followed by relaxation on the beach and a massage at the spa. We enjoyed 'La Paulée' dinner with wine and food pairings.

Day 10 – A warm welcome at the new C Palmar Resort

We moved to the new C Palmar Resort, enjoying the crystal clear sea, sandy beach, and dinner in the main restaurant with attentive service.

Day 11 – A testing round at the new Mont Choisy golf course

We played at Mont Choisy golf course with our friends Jo and Rory Kirk, enjoying the course's views and a par-3 across a wetland to an island green. We had lunch and drinks in the clubhouse, followed by dinner in the C Asian restaurant.

Day 12 – Home from home at the Belle Mare Plage

We moved to Constance Belle Mare Plage, enjoying the resort's development from its early days to its current stylish version with excellent courses.

Day 13 – Golf with old friends at the Links course

I played golf with my friends Sarran and Dinesh at the Links course, followed by a tour of the wine cellar and a wine tasting experience before dinner at the Blue Penny restaurant.

Day 14 – On your bike again!

We took another bike ride along the east coast, enjoying Belle Mare public beach, followed by a swim, lunch, and music at La Spiaggia restaurant.

Day 15 – A quick 9 holes at the Legend Course and travelling like a star!!

We played a final 9-holes on the Legend Course before departing in luxury via the Yu Lounge at the airport, concluding our visit to Mauritius.

Warm welcomes, superb golf, and idyllic weather – what more could you want!

May is a perfect time in Mauritius with ideal weather and fantastic condition golf courses. We're grateful for the high-quality service from Emirates and the hospitality in Mauritius, making it feel like a second home.
